This costume is of a young Captain Jack Sparrow from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. I made this for my nephew, Christian, for Halloween 2004. I love his pose for the shot to the left =) . It seems to catch the spirit of the Jack so well.... a young Jack at least. ^_~
This costume was completely custom made and took a lot more work than I thought. To construct his outfit I took a pattern that was as close as I could get then I HEAVILY MODIFIED IT to get the shirt, pants and vest. The ‘boots’ where made using a pattern I made myself. The sash was made with a strip of fabric I stitched together then hand painted to get the right kind of stripes. My sister and I strung the beads for his hair then I constructed the wig using these and some hair I purchased at a beauty supply shop. The scarf for his head was made using a slightly modified one in a pirate pattern.
Though it took quite a bit of effort to make ((I was REALLY glad his brother’s costume was super easy to make.)) I think all the work was worth it. He was so happy when he got to wear it. He even won 1st prize for ‘scariest costume.’ ((A guess a pirate is pretty scary when your 6. ^_~))
