This painting was inspired by an episode of Terry Madden's Watercolor Workshop I saw on TV. In his version he had one Geisha doing another's hair, in a similar pose to mine.

I decided to make my version using my own drawing and Maiko instead of Geisha for two reasons. First I like the more fancy costumes they wear. And second I just wanted to do something a little different from what he had done. =)

I did the original sketch on my computer in November and painted it with watercolors & metallic paint pens. The painting was finished December 25, 2004 and was given as a gift to my niece for her birthday.
